We continue in this month of counting blessings and thankfulness with our celebration of Footsteps In Eden Reflexology's 4th Birthday. From our very beginning, Footsteps In Eden chose to offer you way more than a reflexology "session." Our goal was to offer you an experience of delight for all the senses. We appeal to your sense of smell through the use of aromatherapy. In our case, high quality therapeutic grade essential oils from Young Living .  Did you know that of all of our senses, the sense of smell is the only one where we react first and think about our response later? Something to think about, but not the question for today. So, the question is, what is your favorite essential oil, how do you use it, and why?  To familiarize yourself with essential oils and their benefits, begin your journey of discovery here .

Reflexology: A Gift for Your Feet & Your Whole Body!!!

How kind are you to your feet? We call 'em our "dogs," but do we treat them as the beloved members of the family, like many do their furry friends? Alice was certainly concerned about her feet as she grew taller and taller in the 2nd chapter of Lewis Carroll's famous tale: "'Good-bye, feet!' (for when she looked down at her feet, they seemed to be almost out of sight, they were getting so far off). 'Oh, my poor little feet, I wonder who will put on your shoes and stockings for you now, dears? I'm sure I shan't be able! I shall be a great deal too far off to trouble myself about you: you must manage the best way you can; — but I must be kind to them,' thought Alice, 'or perhaps they won't walk the way I want to go! Let me see: I'll give them a new pair of boots every Christmas.' And she went on planning to herself how she would manage it. 'They must go by the carrier,' she thought; 'and how funny it'll see...

Reflexology Special Holiday Offers for November-December 2010

The fast approaching holidays, and the limited time available to be and do all we would like during the months of November and December, have had my mind in a spin. As moms and grandmothers and women in general, we take on the holidays with a vengeance. I'm not sure what we're looking for, except perhaps to recreate a memory or a dream we see in our hearts, and hope to experience too. I'm thinking of the ways to make our dreams realities while keeping our dispositions kind and our hearts loving. Anything less would spoil the effect. You're agreeing about now, right? :o) Here are a few of my thoughts on destressing the holidays for a happier, healthier, joyful celebration for all: 1. We all have so much. So, do most of those on our gift giving lists. I see so many things I would love to purchase for my children and grandchildren. It's challenging, but one a pray I'm up to: limiting my purchases to one well-chosen gift for each person. Being able to purchase gifts...

Choosing a Reflexologist

There are only a few reflexologists in the Memphis area. There are several more massage therapists and massage venues that are now offering reflexology. The prices run the course from $29 to $100 for one session. What will you get for your dollars, and how do you choose (no matter where you live)? First and foremost, reflexology is not foot massage. While a reflexologist may include some massage techniques, it is not the main focus of his or her work. Once heard reflexology described by another reflexologist as a "moving accupressure." That's not a very scientific definition, but it certainly gives you a clearer picture of the work being done. A recent article at NaturalNews.com featured reflexology as an effective, drug-free, non-invasive way of reducing tension. Based on the premise that all organs, glands, and parts of your body are mirrored on your feet, reflexology uses very specific touch therapy techniques applied to the feet, encouraging all body systems toward gr...

Whole Creation in the Foot: A Reflexologist's Perspecitive

It took the whole of Creation To produce my foot, my each feather: Now I hold Creation in my foot. Ted Hughes What a beautiful quote I came upon this morning. As a reflexologist, and especially one that is just completing certification in Maternity Reflexology as well, it holds so much significance I'm bounding over to share. Praying I will articulate my thoughts with understanding for you the reader. To begin please allow me to share from the Psalms: You are the one who put me together inside my mother's body, and I praise you because of the wonderful way you created me. Everything you do is marvelous! Of this I have no doubt. ~~Psalm 139:13-14 Now add to this a brief definition of reflexology. Reflexology is based on the belief that every organ, gland, and part of your body is reflected in the feet. The reflexologist uses specific hand, finger, and thumb techniques to address these reflex points encouraging all systems of the body to greater balance and deep relaxation. Only...

Plantar Fasciitis or Blocked Energy?

"Guess what? I went to see a reflexologist. I didn't have plantar fasciitis at all. I had blocked energy, and my feet are all better now." A friend and fellow bodywork practitioner shared that one of her clients had been asking what she could do for plantar fasciitis. The clt. had taken a new job where she was on her feet on concrete floors many hours each day. Her feet hurt very badly, she believed it to be plantar fasciitis, and she was looking for a quick fix rather than a modality that would take many sessions to bring her healing. My friend believed it would take several sessions if it were truly plantar fasciitis -- it probably would have. The above quote was from their follow-up conversation. Why is this being brought up here on Footsteps In Eden's blog? What's interesting to note is that "plantar fasciitis" has become a real popular word ... quite a buzz about it... great collective condition for any inflammation on the sole of the feet. The plan...

Reflexology for Summertime Feet

Recently stumbled across this comment in roaming around lots of great blogs out there: "Every barefoot adventure should come with a reflexologist included." I couldn't agree more! Thankfully, the days are warming up a bit. Sandal and barefoot weather are just around the corner. You may have even taken that step already on a few of the warmer days. We've all seen the outcome of running barefoot and wearing sandals all summer. The elements we encounter do tend to do some damage -- blisters, callouses, dry rough skin, etc...you know all about that. Those callouses and rough skin may keep some areas of your feet from receiving the stimulation the various reflex points require to keep all the organs in your body functioning optimally. Those barefoot adventures coming with a reflexologist is surely a potential feel good health & wellness experience extraordinaire!

Startling Stress Statistics . . . Reflexology for Stress Reduction

This photo from Stock Vault photos is entitled, "Releasing the Demons." That is a STRESSFUL thought. In my humble opinion this photo is a depiction of STRESS. . . and STRESS is our topic here! Look at these STRESS statistics compiled for a recent REFLEXOLOGY presentation. *7 out of every 10 people who die each year had been living with a chronic illness. *1 out of every 2 of us in now living with a chronic illness. *For 3 of every 4 of those with a chronic illness, STRESS may be a contributing factor. (American Medical Association) *A full 43% of US adults suffer adverse effects from STRESS. (American Psychological Association) *More than 80% of physician office visits are associated with unresolved stress issues. *Stress is a big factor in more than 75% of all illnesses diagnosed today with many studies putting this figure closer to 90%. (www.About.com) *Depression, only one type of stress reaction, is predicted to be the leading occupational disease of the 2...

April Blooming Invites You to Footsteps In Eden Reflexology

Clients of Footsteps In Eden have been wowed by the April color palatte of God's incredible creation as they travel the little street to our door. We're amazed, too, every time we glance out the window or wander about our yard. It would be splendid for it to look this amazing year round, but suppose we would never appreciate it so much. Suffice it to say, Memphis shows off big time for a few weeks each Spring, and we are blessed to enjoy an extreme abundance of the glitz and glamour of it all. Reflexology appointments during this season are still available. Your relaxation will begin before you even arrive at your destination.

Oh, so sorry . . . . I beg forgiveness . . . . many of my readers may well live outside (and probably do) the Memphis, TN area. To find a reflexologist in your own locality, please check out the directory of the Reflexology Association of America .

Footsteps In Eden Reflexology - 30 Seconds of Limelight

Footsteps in Eden Reflexology (Memphis, TN) has 30 seconds of limelight this Saturday morning... that means along with 15 other ladies from Memphis' Ladies Who Launch incubators, I have the opportunity to share my 30 second "elevator speech." What's an elevator speech? You know. Someone on the elevator asks you what you do (not likely -- people rarely speak on elevators), but you have about 30 seconds to respond and leave them with a GRRRRREAT impression. This is all Saturday morning at 10 at That Chic Shopping Show at the AgriCenter in Memphis, TN. There will be giveaways and fun, and a full day of great shopping for chics! Anyone have any wonderful ideas for my elevator speech, I'm all "ears"!!!! (But ideally the speech will focus on "feet"!) I have one special gift to give away as well. Any really creative and fun ideas for that are truly appreciated!!! So, this is definitely the post on which to comment . . . and if you're in Memphis...
